SIA - OH FATHER - YEP, A MADONNA COVER!

Madonna's fourth single, from her highly regarded Like A Prayer album, was the Patrick Leonard produced, Oh Father. Though the song didn't fare bad on the US charts (peak #20 on the Billboard Hot 100), it was her first single since Holiday not to become a top 10 US hit for Madonna. Most people, I would say, remember Oh Father, not necessarily for the song itself but for the tense and haunting video directed by David Fincher who had previously worked with Madonna on her now greatest video classic, Express Yourself and would later go on to direct "Vogue" and "Bad Girl" before moving strictly into film. Oh Father is the final track on the upcoming album from Sia Furler, "We Are Born." Less melodramatic than the original, the Sia version is almost bouncy with it's new more current electronic backing (hand claps and all). I can't say that I prefer this one to the original; actually, I don't. I will say though, that on its own merit (without any comparison to the original Madonna classic), the track is rather enjoyable. Sia's vocals are the stand-out on this fun and light-hearted cover.  I suggest checking out the comments section of my posts going forward, wink wink.
